Have a fa-BOO-lous Halloween!

We visit The Pumpkin House in Thursford so get into the spirit of things.

Have a fa-BOO-lous Halloween!

"I love dressing up," 9 year old Matilda tells me, when I ask her what she likes about Halloween. Her 11 year old brother, Joshua, adds, "I love carving the pumpkins." I ask what he looks for when he's picking one, "The biggest!" He responds. Fair enough.

And here at The Pumpkin House there are plenty to choose from, I leave them happily deciding which one will be theirs.

Playing nearby on a tractor is 2 year old Oscar, mum Cloey says this is their third year coming.

"It's amazing, there's so much for the children to do, there're lots of photo opportunities, we first brought him when he was 6 months old, and it's a bit of a family tradition now, we bring him every year.

"I don't know how carving will go, but we are going to buy a pumpkin - we might paint it instead!"

Brookhill in Thursford is transformed at this time of year into a festive, Halloween-themed farm. Everything from picking a pumpkin, playing some ghoulish mini golf, to a spooky maize maze.

For ten years Henry and Victoria Cushing have been putting on the event, and at its centerpiece is a handmade wooden house decorated with hundreds of pumpkins.

"There're enough scaffold boards to scaffold board a house out!" Henry laughs.

"I used to be in the building trade years ago - so that's my repurposing of scaffold boards to build this. It was copied from an American idea, obviously Halloween is a lot bigger in America.

"Here we're also trying to bring old fashioned family fun and games, things you don't really get to do anymore - like welly wanging."

"And we have my late father's fair ground organ playing to add a bit of atmosphere," Henry continues.

"I love seeing children dancing infront of it - it puts a smile on your face seeing other people enjoy themselves."

Before he goes I take the opportunity to ask how to choose a good pumpkin.

"There are so many different ways to do them now, people have smaller ones inside the bigger one, it all depends on what you want. I mean some people just draw faces on them now.

"But you've basically got to go for a nice round one, in my opinion, but you know, everyone's different!"

And if it's raining (which let's face it this week it may well do a lot!) there're lots of indoors things too - including face painting and games. With plenty of snacks nearby.

Thanks for having us on the farm - if you fancy some spooky family fun and getting into the spirit of Halloween - it's a great place to visit.

I'm off to carve my nice round pumpkin.
