Hundreds of Rock Choir Members raised an amazing £1,784.59 for the Hunstanton Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) thanks to an afternoon of music in the sunshine.
The Green at Hunstanton in Norfolk was filled with Rock Choir Members and their family and friends for the annual fundraiser.
With the sea providing a beautiful backdrop for the performance, 370 Rockies took their spot to entertain the crowds. Choir on the Green was organised by Rock Choir Leader Sally Rose with much-valued support from Hunstanton RNLI volunteers.
Rock Choir Leaders Sally Rose, Dave Easter and Emily Robinson invited their choirs from across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire for the performance on Saturday 8 August.
Sally Rose commented: “The first time we did this event we had about 60 Rock Choir Members performing. Now we’re in our fourth year and we had 370 Rockies. We’re really proud it’s done so well and we’ll definitely be back next year.
You could feel the buzz in the air, even before we started. Everybody was so excited to be there. So many members tell us this is their favourite gig of the year.”
Dave said the event was now a popular date in the Rockies’ calendar, He commented: “A guy came up to me after the event and said it was really uplifting to see so many people singing together. He said it was a wonderful afternoon.
The RNLI is so important for the area - everyone really gets behind them.”
Thanks to the generosity of their friends and family, Rockies smashed the £1,600 they raised at the same event in 2025. The audience enjoyed listening to a mix of songs from the Rock Choir repertoire, ranging from ‘Club Tropicana’, to ‘I’ll Be There For You’ and ‘Space Man’. The event concluded with an encore of ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.
The RNLI charity saves lives at sea, providing a 24-hour search and rescue service around the UK’s coastline. Volunteers at Hunstanton RNLI operate both the inshore lifeboat Spirit of West Norfolk and the search and rescue hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer from their base in Sea Lane.
Derek Greening, Chair of Hunstanton and West Norfolk RNLI Fundraising Guild, said: “This is the fourth year running that Rock Choir has appeared, with it going from strength to strength each year. This year we raised an amazing £1,784.59. These funds will go to ensuring that Hunstanton RNLI have all the equipment they need to continue their mission of ‘Saving Lives at Sea’. A big thank you to everyone who took part, especially all of the organisers.”
