"I am sad it's over," Jess Smith tells me, "It was hard some days finding the time, fighting the weather, and some days utter exhaustion. But, it gave me purpose and I can honestly say every swim, even the tough ones, I came out glowing."
We first met along Hunstanton seafront, when she was around halfway through the month. Before braving the sea, she told me why she was taking on the challenge.
"We have the most chalk streams in the world, and we need to protect them. Also, Hunstanton is a tourist resort, we want beautiful beaches and for people to feel confident about swimming in the sea without catching any nasty bugs."

She described herself as 'part seal', "Once I'm in, I'm fine - there's an initial shock and I do some breathing exercises to relax, so it takes me a few moments to acclimatise.
"It gets you closer to nature. Swimming is amazing, but swimming in open water, is on a next level. I love it, it makes your skin tingle, it makes you feel very alive."

Dip a Day is an annual fundraising and awareness campaign in October run by Surfers against Sewage. The charity says, "It's to raise funds to support the charity's clean-water campaigns, data tracking, and putting legal pressure on water companies and lawmakers."
Jess says she's been 'blown away with the support', "I am in the top 20 fundraisers. It makes me feel emotional that so many people sponsored me. It really is an important cause."

Her last swim was in the Great Ouse, "By Houghton Mill. It was magical and I stayed in for 45 minutes.
"I would definitely encourage other people to take on the challenge! There is a great camaraderie amongst the dippers. If you can find a swim buddy to do it with, that really helps."

Jess' last swim
She does have a bit of key advice though, "A good changing robe is a life saver!"
We just want to say a big well done to Jess, and to anyone else who did Dip a Day this October - I'll invest in a good changing robe and join you next year. Promise.
