Kevin and Jaki Mangeolles converted the Neptune pub into a restaurant and guest rooms 19 years ago. Since 2009, it's been featured in the Michelin guide. The couple are retiring, and despite the business being advertised for more than a year, there's been no interest.
So, they've now applied to convert the property into two homes.
The application statement says profits have been squeezed, guest rooms have struggled to compete with other hotels and Airbnb's, and there are issues with limited parking.
The statement continues, "As marketing for a commercial use has not been successful options are limited. The owners having reached retirement age are not wanting to carrying on with the business in the long term.
"The building is not large and there are no other specific options in terms of use. It is too far from the village centre and the sea to attract customers to an alternative facility."
The building, which is thought to date back to the 1780s, currently has five guest bedrooms, with the Michelin-starred restaurant open from Wednesday to Saturday.
King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council is due to make a decision later this year.
