A helping hand for our heroes as West Norfolk charity receives funding boost

A West Norfolk charity helping former servicemen and women find friendship, support and a sense of belonging has received a welcome funding boost to continue its work across the local Armed Forces community.

A helping hand for our heroes as West Norfolk charity receives funding boost

The Bridge for Heroes has been awarded funding through the Tim & Hazel Barrett Fund, administered by Norfolk Community Foundation, helping the charity continue providing activities, opportunities and practical support for those who have served in the Armed Forces.

For many people, leaving military life can mean adjusting to a very different world.

The friendships, routines and sense of community that come with serving in the Armed Forces don’t always translate easily into civilian life, and having somewhere to turn can make an enormous difference.

That’s where The Bridge for Heroes comes in.

More than somewhere to meet

The charity provides a welcoming environment where members of the Armed Forces community can come together, meet others who understand their experiences and access support when they need it.

Its work is about more than simply providing activities.

It’s about helping people build friendships, maintain their wellbeing and feel part of a community where they are understood and valued.

Whether someone is looking for companionship, a little encouragement or support with the challenges that can follow military service, the charity aims to ensure they don’t have to face those difficulties alone.

The latest funding will help The Bridge for Heroes continue delivering these opportunities to people across West Norfolk.

A welcome boost

Helen Taylor, Chief Executive of The Bridge for Heroes, said the support would make a real difference to the charity’s ongoing work.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Tim & Hazel Barrett Fund and Norfolk Community Foundation for supporting The Bridge for Heroes.

“This funding will help us continue our work within the Armed Forces community and ensure we can provide the support, connection and opportunities that make such a difference to those we serve.”

Norfolk Community Foundation works with local donors and organisations to support charities and community projects across the county.

Claire Mackintosh MBE, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, welcomed the opportunity to help.

“Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.”

Supporting those who have served

West Norfolk has long-standing connections with the Armed Forces, and charities such as The Bridge for Heroes play an important role in supporting the people and families who form part of that community.

While military service may eventually come to an end, the need for friendship, understanding and a helping hand certainly doesn’t.

The funding from the Tim & Hazel Barrett Fund will help the charity continue offering those important connections.

And sometimes, knowing there is somewhere you can walk through the door, have a conversation and feel among friends can be every bit as valuable as more formal support.

Because looking after those who have served isn’t simply about remembering what they have done in the past. It’s also about making sure they have the support they need today.
